Majestic SEO Launch New Tool for Analysing Link Data

Majestic SEO have released a new additional tool in analysing link data. This has been designed to give users an idea of how effective a URL is on a scale of 0-100. Using link data, the new metric is based on the flow of a characteristic through the web.

As we know, there are currently a number of tools on the market using link data to assess how well a site is optimised, such as SEOMoz, so what makes this device any different from the others? This new tool introduced by Majestic SEO is so different because it uses two metrics, Trust Flow and Citation Flow, to form the basis of the flow metrics algorithm. These have been set up to give users more information about links and can even be applied to any URL, sub domain or root domain, producing a chart to show the effectiveness of links.

The chart demonstrates its findings through a series of purple dots. Where the chart appears denser seems to indicate where the links are more effective. Every link to a site has a Trust Flow value and a Citation value between 0 and 100. Basically, links with high Citation Flow end up more to the right, whilst links with more Trust Flow are positioned higher up the chart. This seems to follow a similar system used by SEOMoz, which adopts a 0-100 scale for page authority and domain authority.

The Citation Flow predicts how influential a URL might be, based on how many sites link to it. What appears to make it more effective than the old metric of ACRank, is that it recognises that different links hold different weight.

This is then combined with the Trust Flow. One notable finding from the tests undertaken by Majestic SEO, is that most link files seemed to have a better Citation Flow than Trust Flow. It would be interesting to see if there are many sites which show a higher Trust Flow.

At SEO Positive, we are excited about the prospect of analysing the effectiveness of this tool and seeing just how different it really is to other tools such as SEOMOZ. Allowing users to compare the link profiles of different sites, it could be a really useful addition in continuing to provide our customers with a strong portfolio of varied links for their SEO campaigns.
